Benjy answers PVE Design and Cakespy

Benjy, parlez-vous francais?
Can you please post on 1. all the lovely "moutardes" in France! We adore savora! One cannot find it in the USA! 2. Love the supermarket "Piccard" 3. Are there a lot of Americans Dancing in Paris? PVE Design

Dear PVE Design, aka Patricia, dear readers,
Mais oui, je parle français! Je suis un Oracle bilingue!
Ah, I see from your questions that you are a gourmande (food lover)! Can't blame you. For my birthday I got some dog treats from Au Bon Chien, a Parisian dog bakery: I love their cheese-and-bacon cookies and foie gras bites (my assistant indulges me though she disapproves of foie gras... thanks, Mary-Laure!)
1. I avoid mustard, because it makes me go Achoo! The classic mustard that all French people have on their dinner table is Amora (I think Savora is sweeter). Dijon, in Burgundy, has been World Capital of mustard since 1856, when one Jean Naigeon made the condiment as we know it for the first time, and when my amanuensis went there last year she saw all kinds of funky many-flavored mustards...
Are you familiar with the French expression La moutarde me monte au nez? Literally, it means Mustard is going up to my nose, but the idea is: I'm getting angry, here!
2. Picard is the French frozen foods store. Four-legged ones are not allowed in so when my assistant goes there she ties me to a post outside and I am to wait for her right there! Don't you just hate that?
3. Paris is the dance capital of Europe; dancers from all over the world converge here and just pirouette away! Speaking of dance: in a recent comment, Cakespy wrote:
I adore Benjy. I would like to see him doing some pilates and dance, actually.
Well, here's a picture of me leaping (grand jeté in dance lingo)!Dear readers, if you too have a question about lifestyle, fashion, shopping, Paris or anything else, don't hesitate to post it in the Comment section. The Oracle always answers!
Benjy

Cakespy - yes, your spelling is perfect! And French spelling IS tricky... sigh.
I'm sure you would have loved the Birthday Cupcake I got for my birthday. It's unfrtunate I wolfed it down before my amanuensis could snap a picture... It was a yummy cupcake.

hi benjy, can i ask you another question about dancers in paris? is there a place you'd recommend in paris for an american who loves tango?

HA!!!

Red Thread - it's your lucky day! Indeed, my assistant is of Uruguayan descent (you know, Uruguay, the tiny country nestled between Argentina and Brazil and whose capital, Montevideo, is a tango haven), and her grandfather even used to sing tangos in clubs in Montevideo!
Needless to say, she loves tango.
A good place for all dance classes of course is the Centre de Danse du Marais, on the rue du Temple; Lia Nanni is from Argentina and tango classes are quite popular (she offers evening classes as well as occasional weekend intensive workshops).
A block away from the Centre de Danse du Marais is the movie theater Le Latina, where cool tango workshops often take place.
You may also want to check out La Casa del Tango (11, allée Darius Milhaud, 75019 Paris).
Every year, the Palais de Chaillot presents a major tango festival with balls open to all and classes with tango master.
Finally, if you wish, my assistant can forward you the email newsletter La Gazeta Del Tango, of which she is a subscriber; just give her your email address and it will be in your inbox next time it comes out!
Y viva el tango!

Benjy, you're so cultivated and well informed, but of course, you're an oracle, aren't you?

Beautiful "grand jeté"!

Applause and bouquets to Benjy for that beautiful grande jete!

Ah! Benjy! I understand you regarding the mustard. I go Achoo! as well.
I enjoy Picard quite a bit. Since I am not allowed inside I usually wait outside with my fellow four legged Parisian friends while my mistress buys me my meat (I am quite a fan of poultry but also enjoy beef).
What kind of meal do you have Benjy? my diet is very balanced with vegetables, mets, couscous and croquettes. I also occasionally enjoy some cheese and fruits (mmmmh pineapple and tangerines!!!)

Needless to say, I LOOOVE this posting from the Oracle!

Taocito - I love cheese too! Not for nothing are we French pooches! But I'm not crazy about fruit (or Toblerone or Ferragamo shoes if you see what I mean...)

Kwana - I hear you have a cute little dog yourself! I'd love to meet him some time.

PVE Design - well, I don't wear a beret; as for the rest of my Style, I will post about it soon, as others have asked me about it too!
Thanks again for your wonderful questions...

why do french women stay so thin even though they enjoy much of the french food?
what would be the most insulting thing to say to a frenchman? *lol* these are my questions...you can ask me questions to Austria or Hungary too! :-)

Dear Andrea/Frodo - Ah, yes, we HATE waiting in front of the stores, don't we... I never wail because I am just so upset I can only shiver and sigh.
I don't understand everything about our two-legged servants either. Why don't they ALWAYS want to play?

Chililady - your questions are insightful. I will make sure to answer you in an upcoming post...
I've never been to Austria or Hungary but my assistant Mary-Laure traveled through Hungary by car a few years back, and also spent a few days in Budapest and she ADORES Hungary!

Dear Benjy, I envy you, such a great food! But I am not a big gourmand. I eat everything what my servants give me and sometimes I find something by my self (what the servants really hate). And because you are the oracle, pleas tell, why are they so angry always, when I yell and wail while I should wait in front of the shop? Don´t understand them, really, because to my minde it is a wonderful song full of sensibility and hunger for a peace of ham or so.
sorry I forget to write my name before
sincerely Frodo

When will you meet you new friend Cancan ?

Anonymous said...

Dear Oracle
I don't know where you are getting at, speaking of Ferragamo shoes and Toblerone but I don't like it. Yes, I like chocolate. And yes, I like to chew expensive shoes (well anything very pricey will do). Deal with it Oracle! Or, do like my mistress: hide your chocolate and don't buy expensive shoes.

Anonymous said...

Chihuahua - I would love to meet Cancan! We should arrange to have tea in a pooch-friendly place some time very soon...

I just love you Benjy!!

OH MY GOD! Chihuahua in paris has met a real life ewok!!! Ans she even snapped a photo at its "cub"(?) state! But is it an ewok or a gremlin pre feeding?
O Oracle, do other mythical creatures of this sort exist???
