My Stainless Steel Canteen
I am always on the lookout for new stylish vessels to carry some water around without having to resort to plastic bottles - for one thing, plastic containers are now thought to be dangerous for our health, and I'd also avoid participating in the piling up of discarded plastic bottles in landfills.
Last year, I showed you my cool Swiss-made Sigg I still use at home all the time. My latest find is by Us Canteen, an American brand that creates beautiful stainless steel bottles inspired by the design of military canteens. These sleek bottles come with a fun No Plastic trinket (above), and carriers such as the Como (right), complete with a cell-phone compartment and a zipped pocket. I love it.

when i get plastic bottles i try to reuse them before disposing of them, but still it's not like i buy them all the time
xx
LADY STARDUST - ha, I do that too! It makes me feel a little less guilty...
fabulous... great idea, very practical and they look lasting too unless dented...but still not easily discarded.
Very cool...
I like the look of it without the pouch better - but I can see how that could come in handy...

Fabulous-I want one. And now there are some siggs out there that have been determined harmful.
Have you read about that?
I love the look and style of that canteen. I’ve been using a stainless steel one of my son’s – I think it’s time I splurged and bought one for myself. I’m going to check out the link. Hope they’re available in Canada!
VINTAGE MEL - I agree with you: it's so beautiful that I want to use it without the pouch, but at the same time it's quite convenient.
DEBRA - no I have NOT read about that; I must look into this ASAP, thanks for the info.
BETH - it's great that you child has a canteen and already knows about not using disposable botlles etc.
I've been looking for a replacement to one of the Siggs that have zee weird problem. So I shall take a look at this one. I swear M-L, it is great to have you & a friend here in DC as personal shoppers:)
I so loved my canteen as a little Brownie (& later as a Girl Scout...yes, I was in a cool troop, man...we helped start the first recycling program in Pittsburgh.).
ciao meow darling...I'm awaiting news if a little orange & white feline is willing to be a new resident here & play with Julie the Cat while I try to work. Keeping fingers crossed. Hi & hugs to the darling Monsieur B.
xoxo
adorable, great find. I love anything military inspired plus necesito mi agua siempre cerca. I have some hats on my blog that reminded me of you.
Oh, I love the top one.
Those are cool. So uncool to admit this, but I carry one of those water coolers in my car as I have this unreasonable fear that we'll be stranded in the middle of nowhere without water and found dead due to dehydration.
Angie--that's not uncool at all. I just had to say it. I was on a lot of digs in the MEast & head of volunteers on one. Two girls would NOT drink water (kept drinking tea) in off hours. I knew because they lived across the hall from me. Oh joy. Anyway. They ended up in hospital, seriously ill. It was horrible.
I never go anywhere without some water because of that & other experiences where I couldn't find any to buy...
it's not weird. Most people just do not know how fast it can happen. You're prepared & that is cool (in my book:)
xoS.
GIULIA/SUSAN - so cool that you started the recycling program in Pittsburgh! Bravo to you!
Keep me posted on the new feline!!!! I want to see pictures!
SEALAURA - yo soy igual, siempre necesito tener mi agua cerquita...
ANGIE - I always carry water everywhere too. I get cranky when I'm dehydrated...
And I agree with Giulia, better to be prepared. You never know. I always also carry a book with me because you never know: your car may break down, you may get stuck in an endless line at the post office, WHATEVER, so I always want to be prepared and have something to read.
Hi Mary-Laure,
What a great find. After reading your post, I clicked on your link and ordered a black carrier and a canteen with a brushed stainless steel double wall. The combination will be great on our morning walks and for our travels. Thanks for the great tip!
A perfect solution...it makes me think of the flapper's and their flasks...so naughty!
ANNIE - I hope you like it... Keep me posted!
Mine is single wall.
SPANGLER - I've seen old flasks in flea markets and I'm always tempted to buy one just because they're so stylish. If only I drank!
Beautiful - and dangerous that you posted the link. I have SO many water vessels that I don't need more. But this one is so very pretty....
Stylish and savvy!
MARDI - I'd love to see your own water vessels... Share the goods!
We use plastic bottles all the time at home :( It's sad, but we do collect them to be recycled though.
Also, I've got a humble little award for you at my blog. I hope you like it :)
They are sleek and pretty. That's such a good idea, especially when I think about how many plastic bottles I've gathered lately.
ALYA - an award, oh, how sweet of you!!!
