Color Of The Season: Yellow

I read that yellow is the color of the season - witness Sonia Rykiel's beautiful new ads...
Challenging as it is to wear, especially for blondes, I like my acid yellow. I confine it to shoes though: my patent leather "Apple" flats by Charles Jourdan, and my Dr Scholl slides.

At the sound of the name Dr Scholl, some shiver and think Clunky, Anything But Chic. For me though, these Dr Scholls are very special.
Back in Uruguay, inspired my her aunt Raquel, a fearless and unconventional woman who got married in church in bright red and was a Scholl devotee, my mum started wearing Dr Scholls as a young woman. I saw her with this practical footwear all my life - she 's wearing a pair on in the picture above, taken during a vacation on Cape Cod in the mid 80's... My friends' French mums wore precious shoes, fancy heels, but they never seemed to play with their kids the way my mum did, with all her heart and her extraordinary energy, and to me, Dr Scholls came to epitomize what my mum is, an independent-minded woman whose appetite for exploration, fun and knowledge is boundless.
After Raquel and my mum, Laura, I carry on the Dr Scholl tradition. Only I wear them in pop yellow rather than clinical white.

I think 'pop yellow' would be a fitting tribute to your mothers extraordinary energy and love for life. It's beautiful that shoes can provoke such stirring childhood memories!

this is a nice tribute to the honesty of being alive; love your yellow (one of my favorite words as a child) and the image at the ocean.

Sometimes too much marketing makes us forget the essentials. See, I can't stand yellow, even if it's the most chic thing this summer... :)

What a nice correlation between your Mom and Dr. Scholl's. I remember them quite well from childhood too. I took my stepsister's navy blue one and sent it floating down the stream and gots in lots of trouble after she told on me. They do float!

Love your "Apple" flats by Jourdan and your pop yellow Scholl's slides too. And it's not clunky anymore since Diego Dolcini has designed a collection for the brand, take a look there: http://www.scholl-diegodolcini.com/inglese.html

I love the Dr. Scholls. My mom and my aunts used to wear them all the time too! I've never owned a pair, which suprises me because I always go for comfortable shoes. Anyway, the yellow pair is great!

MANSUETUDE - thanks for your sweet comment. It's true that YELLOW is a beautiful word, so expressive and full of cool sounds...

ETSI - aaawww, come on, give yellow a try... It's instant sunshine!

AUGUST - LOL. What a naughty girl you were! I would have strangled my sister if she had done that. Tey float indeed. Good to know.

ARLENE - actually, the French invented Mother's Day, but not in a very "nice" way: while France was occupied by the Germans during WW2, the French government sadly collaborated with the Nazis, and on their agenda was the promotion of traditional family values that involved not letting women work. So they created Mother's Day as a way to glorify the ideal of a stay-at-home mum. Which is nice in some ways, but for me, the idea that Mother's Day was created by the government that collaborated with the nazis taints it.
Mother's Day is still celebrated in France, but not at the same time as in other countries. It's end of May, I think.

MISS GLITZY and CHLOE - thanks for mentioning those Scholl collections, I'll check them out!

NINA - yeah, Cape Cod is the best!

MARIE - with your dark hair, I'm sure yellow would look lovely on you! I'll email you names of places where you can buy fabrics in Paris, if you want...
