American Summers
When I was a little girl, no matter where in the world we were living, my parents my sister and I would head for the USA every summer to spend a few weeks with some friends.
As we left the airport and drove towards Cape Cod or the beaches of Maine, we'd stop at the first store to buy some Oreos, a much missed treat. Thus weeks of summer bliss began, with picnics by the ocean, pompoms, plenty of singing, bicycling, ice-cream, evenings spent on the city commons for a concert, and much more. How I loved my American summers!

A trip to America each year? How very cool!
This pom pom girl is too cute and a bit shy! I love her!
Oh, what a precious picture. Those happy early experiences have certainly played an important role in your life. Thanks for the lovely glimpse into your past.
What a wonderful way to spend the summer.
Have a great time in LA too.
What nice memories! What an adorable picture.
My favorite american cookies at about that age were pecan sandies and ginger snaps. When I did eat an oreo cookie it was always the cream in the middle first!
American summers are amazing, fresh corn on the cob, water-melon, beaches or pools, fire-flies and
lots of base-ball, hot dogs and apple-pie!
What a great photo of you, rah, rah!
Hope you are enjoying LA!
Is it wrong I'm coveting your Mombassa tee?
such a sweet photo! we also spent time in the summers in New England-- a perfect place to spend summers as a child.
You have had such an amazing life!
MELANIE - yes, every year... I can't tell you how spolit my sister and I were in terms of traveling.
JENNIFER - I love ginger snaps too. (Did you ever have the ones they sell at Ikea? They're super delicious)
PVE DESIGN - oh, yes! Corn on the cob and watermelon! I had both yesterday, it was so wonderful!
IMELDA - that t-shirt is super cute indeed, but unless you're a little girl size, I'm afraid it may be a teeny bit tight for you...
BONBON OISEAU - first of all, let me tell you that I love the name "bonbon oiseau" you chose, it's absolutely lovely!
Yes, summers in New England are just perfect. Where in New England did you usually go?
I love these types of memories of summer. It sounds like you had a lovely time.
Oh how fun. You make me appreciate having and American Summer.
sounds like heaven :)
I love the red Mombasa tee!
Que guapa te ves cuando eras nina!
summer childhood memories are precious indeed! what an adorable photo...i love the mombasa t-shirt :)
she is pouring a whole lot of loving into the soul behind the camera! adorable.
MANSUETUDE - what a sweet comment! It's my doting mum who took the picture.
We're going to Cape Cod next week--Chatham. Where did you stay when you were little?
MISS CAVENDISH - I used to stay in Wood's Hole, as my godfather used to work at the Oceanographic Center. You must go there to see the sea lions!
I don't think I've ever been to Chatham but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time.
In wild parts of Massachusetts, I always think of Thoreau...
Enjoy the Cape!
they sound lovely your summers!
just came back from a weekend on the "cod" as my family says - bike ride to Woods Hole - swimming - boat rides - having fun with the family - three generations -
i remember we would go back to the UK for the summer...lot's of walking in the woods with the cousins playing "ambush" on the parents, raspberry picking, mushroom picking and collecting ladybirds!
