At The Getty Villa

When you think of Malibu, you probably don't think "ancient Greek and Roman art" but since the lavish Getty Villa reopened after extensive renovations, Malibu has indeed become one of the world's supreme destinations for Greek and Roman statues worshipers such as myself.

From the collection of pictures I took, I had the hardest time picking just a few marble ladies and a couple of other things... The graceful postures of these statutes are an inspiration for me when I dance, and their beauty moves me deeply.
I also loved the Children's Room, in which kids can learn about ancient art as well as try their hand at it! With black markers, they are invited to tell a story on vases in the fashion of Grecian masters.

If you want to see more, let me know, and I'll make sure to prepare another post with additional pictures - such as, say, the animal-themed ones, or the mosaics.

Just lovely...hopefully you might make it to Pasadena and the Huntington? And the Norton Simon Museum. Those are not to be missed if you have the time, and they are not too far away--depending on the insanity of traffic.

Oh, I don't envy you that. But I am so glad you are having fun. LA needs more people like you there.

The first is indeed graceful and so are you when you dance on your ballet pointes. I am always moved.

such emotive gesture in the top girl; her fingers speak a transparency.

When opening the images in the web browser the bottom two images line up like a short story: suggesting a relationship. He leaning away.

These make me think--elegantly posed and lasting in these postures while we age and droop. But we taste and enjoy the thrill of living in our bodily feeling.

Si, quiero ver mas! me encantó esto de que los mas chicos tengan su espacio para aprender, me parece genial. Y me encantaría ver mas esculturas, me encanta este tipo de escultura antigua romana o griega.

DEAR ALL - there will be more shots of the Getty Vila in the days to come, I promise!

TANGO BABY - oh I wish I had time for all that!
I actually went to the Remix shoe store you recommended and they were closed, though it said otherwise on their website. I was so disappointed...

MARIE - enjoy the Louvre! Like the British Museum, it really features fabulous collections.

NANCY - you're back from Croatia! I hope you had a great trip.
I agree there is something to be said about leaving those statues where they belong. The Getty however has behaved very responsibly, I think, in making sure not to buy looted artifacts and in returning some pieces to Greece or Italy.
(There was a major article last year in The New Yorker about the Getty and these issues).

MANSUETUDE - the first one from the top is my favorite, too!

RINA - como esenas arte, te habria encantado la "Children's Room" en el Getty, era fabuloso. Los ninos estaban enloquecidos.
