By The Ocean

The Pacific Ocean, and my skin pale as the sand, and a huge blue sky straight out of a Pop Art palette, and a bold wind blowing my hair into a mess, it's Sunday and I spent a while on the beach.
Oh dear California, happy as Joni Mitchell's eponymous tune - a beloved classic.

Qué envidia! Tengo la playa cerca, pero no tengo Barnes & Nobles, ni los fabulosos restaurantes mejicanos, ni las tiendas de segunda mano, ni un montón de cosas que me encantan de Los Angeles! Disfruta!

I am in the pale competition too!
Mary-laure have a great time in LA.

Oh, have fun in LA. Remember to reapply sunscreen every three hours!! I'm of the pale variety too :)

Have fun!, and don't forget the sunscreen. Sunburn is the worst thing ever.

Was thinking, How do you write a whistle so it gets into the wind & blows across the beach? Instead, I will say, That sand sure has a tan!

Enjoy.

Must see Beaches: El Pescador, El Matador and La Piedra - these are fantastic beaches north of Malibu and Zuma beach, take Pacific Coast Hwy north / 101 - Have breakfast/brunch at Bob's Paradise Cove (28128 Pacific Coast Hwy 310-457-2503) - Do not miss the Getty Villa in Malibu and The Huntington Library and Botanic Gardens in Pasadena. Grab someyhing kosher at Canters open 24h/day (WH- 419 North Fairfax Avenue) and have the best seafood in town at the sophisticated Water Grill - 544 South Grand Ave - Do not miss El Pueblo (site of the early Los Angeles) and Union Station (Alameda and Cesar Chavez) and adjacent Chinatown. Tons of great sushi at Little Tokjo, 2 block south of El Pueblo (the best restaurants are in Honda Plaza, 2nd and Central) - Drive on skid row / 6th-7th (ONLY DRIVE NO WALK) and see the shame of the city and from there reach the Millionaire Hotel (5th and Main)
Check the galleries in downtown, Culver city and Bergamot Station in Santa Monica. And if you have time go to Palos Verdes (south of LA).

RAIMENT URBANE - oh, yes, I know, I have such awfully painful memories of sunburns when I was a kid...

MANSUETUDE - I really LOVE LOVE LOVE your idea that the sand has a tan! It's such a poetic and fun notion!

NICOLE - thank you, I hope you visit again!

ANONYMOUS - whoever you are, dear Angelino/a, MANY thanks for taking the time to give me so many great tips about the city.
It was really very thoughtful of you, and I really appreciate it. Thanks again.
