Skinny Palm Trees, Colorful Flowers

It's well known that Los Angeles is all about looking your best - toned bodies, slender limbs, perfect hair. So I found those palm trees very in keeping with the local aesthetics. Where else would you see such skinny, if not anorexic trees, reaching so tall?
I grew up around the beach-side palm trees of Uruguay and the densely planted palm trees of Iraq; the latter gave us the sweetest treats ever, dates. Uruguayan and Iraqi palm trees alike were sturdy as can be, yielding waves of generous shades, so these Angelino palm trees really seem exotic and funny.

I thought I'd also show you some of the wonderful flowers from the garden of the house where I'm staying. Aren't they bold, and colorful as summer?

The most wonderful thing is that when you travel, your eyes have an "attitude of gratitude" and then you share it with each of us. How lucky are we, those photos are really stunning. :)

PVE - oh thank you, I love this idea of "attitude of gratitude". Indeed that's what I strive for, to look for beauty everywhere around and be grateful for it.

CHLOE - I miss you too, Punkie.

MARIE - I swear I did not enhance the color of the flowers, really! They are just very bright. I promise.

LU - I've lived in Kenya, Iran, Iraq, China and then-British Hong Kong. As my grandparents are from Uruguay, I often go there. My mum is American, my dad is French and my sister lives in Amsterdam, so I do get to travel a lot. Oh dear, I'm so spoilt...

J'aime ces photos de détails qui laissent imaginer le reste du paysage.

i grew up in saudi, u.a.e., and bahrain...i used to love watching the men climb up the trees, prop themselves up and cut down dates. california palms just dont have that same 'sink your feet in and grip on' feel.

DISA - thanks for sharing that memory, I loved reading about it. It's wonderful to grow up in different countries, isn't it...

Them Angelino trees look like Hawaiian trees. :p When I lived near LA, I used to get homesick for Hawaii when I saw those trees...they aren't nearly as common in LA as they are in Hawaii.

And the flowers are amazing!
