A Few Wonderful Things

Marie is not only a wonderfully talented artist but also a dear friend and a very generous person - she gave me this amazing, delicate necklace...

It's fig season!

I contributed an article (in French) to an anthology of English literature that has just come out. The reason why I'm excited about this is because, to the best of my knowledge, it's the very first time that my dear Nancy Mitford is included in a comprehensive anthology of Brit lit. I hope that she ends up getting the respect her work should earn her - not as chick-lit forerunner but as supremely witty author, the granddaughter of Jane Austen and Oscar Wilde.

Congrats!!!
Beautiful necklace!

I hope an English translation is available soon, because I would definitely like to read it. Congratulations on getting published, Mary-Laure!

The necklace indeed looks very delicate - I can't quite make out what it is made of.

great success to you!

i had to laugh--thinking Oscar Wilde would have something very dry and witty to say about this "offspring" etc...

well i did not know that about Nancy Mitford! i've read her but it escapes me what it was...

congratulations on your publication, and on speaking/writing French, something i aspire to do. such a beautiful language.

i love your page. :)

KARINA - thanks for the recommendation; what's the name of the author?
I feel exactly the same, cuando empiezo a mezclar los idiomas hablo un cocktail muy unico y raro!

JOANNA & BITTERBETTY - thanks! In the meantime, you can read Mitford's novels - "The Pursuit of Love" is a good place to start.

CARLETTA - I'm not sure, it's a kind of thread/yarn. I'll have to ask Marie.

JOANNA - if you want more of Fanny and Uncle Matthew et al, I HIGHLY recommend "Don't Tell Alfred". It's set in Paris and really quite excellent. Fanny's boys will make you laugh out loud. A classic.

KITTY - I think HE would be shocked too...

NANCY - the book can be found on Amazon.fr, by clicking on the link in the post.
But it's REALLY not worth buying. I can send you a Word doc with my text if you want, just don't tell the publisher, he he he...

Uncle Matthew is one of the funniest characters I've ever come across in literature; he reminds me a lot of Emma Woodhouse's father. Haven't read "Don't Tell Alfred", but I'll add it to my list. Thanks for the rec!
