Naked... Or Not

At the corner of Melrose and Harper in Los Angeles lives a naked Kloe Kardashian. She exposes her spectacular body and mane for PETA, as part of the organization's ongoing struggle to ban fur, the I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur campaign. If you need convincing, read facts and watch videos here.
PETA's website is also a great resource, with a lot of info about brands to avoid - don't buy IAMS to feed your pet!

As for me, I was fully clothed to to welcome the new year. By now, everyone knows how much I love stripes... So I was delighted with this black and white super-mini dress from American Apparel my dear sister got me for Christmas.
Hmmmm, looks like I need a haircut...

Lovely stripes and photos, I'm 100% on the fur and the Iams (thank God George hates the stuff). I wish I wasn't so selfish so I could give up meat and leather... :(

Please thank the ever powerful and wise Benji for me... though very cryptic, I think I got the message and 2009 is looking good. :)

JILL - I send all my best wishes to you and your wonderful, beautiful, precious little family, from the West Coast to the East...

GABBI - don't call yourself selfish; your being aware of animals' suffering is already such a great step, and one many people don't want to make.
Give George a nice scratch between the ears for me.

All the best to you Mary-Laure, for 2009.
Love the stripes, very casual chic. I think you have great eyes, and your hair is nice too, are you going to have it cut?
I am also not a fan of fur, there are plenty of fakes that are just as warm!

have a great weekend,
Solange

I don't need convincing, so I am avoiding those links like the PLAGUE. I still can't the images out of my head from accidentally watching part of a PETA doco. Ugh. :(

Happy New Year, though! :p

NO NO NO!!! Not the dreaded, ghastly Haircut! Like Diana M-M (au cas où le Rabbin nous lirait...), you look MUCH better with long hair! If you won't do it for me, do it for the Mad M's!!!

Mary-Laure said...

SOLANGE - I just had it cut a little bit...

MURALIMANOHAR - yep, those documentaries can be gruesome. I've actually never watched any (I'd be traumatized for life!) but I've been told.

ANONYMOUS - where in the Mitford Gospel does it say that short hair is bad?
Or have you been talking with my grandma?

Thank you for the link to the information about IAMS... Emails and letters have been sent and I shall spread word. Such abhorrent and needless cruelty must cease.

Enjoy your stripes, and here's to a bright and positive 2009.

Mary-Laure said...

THE SEEKER - yes, go for faux fur!

GRACIA - thanks for spreading the word. You are exactly right, the most revolting thing about this cruelty is that it's NEEDLESS.

Thank you for your recent post on my blog about wishing you had a dog park in your area. This brought me over to your site and I learned about Iams. I wasn't aware of this.

Looking good in stripes!

I like that vintage black and white look! :)
I love little stripes too!
I don't fancy furcoats at all. I know all kinds of stories about those poor animals.. i feel terrible for them! SO no fur coats for me..

happy NY and all the best :) and as for PETA, well i agree, why should animals suffer so much? and not just fur but angora sweaters.. you should see how they gather rabbits hair for that.. awful!

I think if you were still living in Paris, this would not be so out of the ordinary . It does send a strong message.
Love stripes too and you look smashing!

Mary-Laure said...

ELECTRO GEISHA - I didn't know about the suffering of angora rabbits. I don't have any angora sweaters but I'll make sure not to buy any in the future. Thanks for the tip!!!

It may just be me, but I think you look like Natassja Kinski in that photo with your hair longer. Very chic - like in Paris, Texas!

Mary-Laure said...

DANICA - wow, what a lovely LOVELY compliment! I just love Natassja Kinski, she is so beautiful. And she was so moving in "Paris, Texas"! Tanks for the compliment. I'm blushing...

I don't think you need a haircut, you look like a natural beauty to me :)

I am all for animals rights - I'm a veg, etc. But PETA has its issues, too. The recently bought adspace on the Mexican border fence that reads, (and this is off the PETA website) "If the border patrol doesn't get you, the chicken and burgers will. Go vegan" (or, in Spanish, "Si no te agarra la migra, te atraparan el pollo y las hamburguesas. Sé vegano")."

First, "if the border patrol doesn't get you?" OMG. Can you imagine? And then, the Spanish translation is in the informal tense - no respect AT ALL. Very disturbing.

Mary-Laure said...

ELENA - actually, I agree with you 100%. I think PETA defends causes in a very extreme way sometimes, with aggressive campaigns, and somehow I believe this ends up alienating some people who otherwise would embrace some issues.
(The "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign is playful and cool, though.)
I'm really shocked by the campaign you mention on the border. I find it very patronizing. Thanks for taking the time to tell me about it, I really appreciate it!

happy new year!

Oh the fur. Lots of people can not seem to connect those fur coat and animals. I remember the ones with even faces on scarves, oh so terrible.

Love your stripe.
