Treats

From the Santa Monica Farmers' Market, some fresh pistachios and juicy tangerines. And my new favorite chocolate, from Scharffen Berger...
At the Market, I also bought some fresh raw orange blossom honey, which I use to sweeten the lemonade I make with lemons from my back yard; I should have also bought their exceptional avocado flower honey. Sigh. Maybe next week.

Everyone who hasn't come across it yet must check out artist Christopher Niemann's great I Lego NY pics published this week in The New York Times.

Pistachios. YUM! There is a place near my house that makes Pistachio ice cream. If you ever come to NZ I'll shout you one. It's amazing.

D. MOLL - do you suppose Sidney and Tyler might like pistachios? Benjy LOVES them.

MIDNIGHT TRAVELLER - oh I just LOVE pistachio ice cream.
That's 1 more reason why I would absolutely love to visit New Zealand; I hear it's such a superb country.

Pistachios are a treat! I really like the way you photograph and capture the treats in your life.

Your pistachios and tangerines look yummy! It's funny you mention lemonade since it's what I'm drinking right now :) Mine is sweetened with Splenda though. I've never tried honey on a cold drink before?

Thank you again for the desk tag dear Mary-Laure, I responded today...such fun.

GABBI - yes, sugar and honey are difficult to dissolve in a cold drink. So I pour hot water over the lemon juice, then have it warm for breakfast OR let it cool in the fridge for an afternoon sip...
Honey makes flavors richer, more complex and is also super good for your health, unlike other types of sweeteners.
I'm THRILLED you posted pics of your desk, I am rushing off to your blog right now.

Oh, I could go on and on about my love for chocolate, especially dark chocolate, but I'll spare you. I will say that Scharffen Berger is excellent chocolate, as is Green & Black's, which is also organic and sustainable, to boot. And the taste is pure heaven.

oh I'm addicted to pistachios! My mother used to buy them all the time in Israel, but they're not as readily available in Australia.

I answered your tag if you want to have a peek at my desk :)

I don't think Pistachio's are on the OK list, but Tyler eats (much to my chagrin) things he shouldn't like orchids, silicon muffin cups, and philodendrons.......

Your shot of pistachios is fabulous! I feel like helping myself to one!

D. MOLL - orchids, silicon muffin cups? Those ARE unusual snacks, and not snacks Benjy would go for...

MISS GLITZY - I'm glad you liked it. I found it very imaginative, funny and a real tribute to that fab city.

RINA - mi tambien!

LAURA - we'll buy some together in Santa Monica when you're here.

KATIE - yes, the farmers' markets are available year round in California... It's great.

NANCY - yes, there's a lemon tree in the backyard.
I'll check out the blog you mentioned, as I don't think I know it.

lemons in the back yard, ahhh that is one of my images of good!

in boston, JP LIcks had the best home made pistachio ice cream... so good. and not green.

You have a lemon tree?! How lucky you are.I love tangerines and dark chocolate. Sometimes I eat the together :-).

Mary-Laure said...

MANSUETUDE - I think ice cream makers usually use a LOT of artificial colors to make pistachio ice cream green. So it's a good sign that the one you mentioned is not green.
I'm not familiar with that ice cream place in Boston. In Cambridge, I would always go to Toscanini, on Mass Ave. I'm sure you know that place.

ANNIE - it's true that chocolate goes very well with citrus fruit. I love candied orange peel coated with chocolate........

Yummy! Today at my market on Blvd Raspail I bought radis noir, fennel, pumpkin, clementines, and prunes. It reminded me of the great pumpkin soup that you make. I miss you dearly.
