Vintage Buys For My Home

A couple of days ago, Track 16, an art gallery in Santa Monica, held an unbelievable bazaar, selling all kinds of vintage items at lower than low prices. I chose 4 wine glasses and 4 delicate champagne glasses, $1 apiece - I love champagne! It's the only alcohol I'll have. I also went for a shiny milk jug a and sugar pot.
But my best buy was definitely the large red trunk, made in a bakelite-type material, for a mere $5. I use it as a coffee table.
More about my new Venice abode in the days to come...

Such good taste! I love the glasses, and the trunk, and of course, yes the very 1940 milk jog and sugar pot.

GABBI - I was hoping that as a longtime local you could recommend me some place where I might find some other vintage treasures for my home...?

NANCY - when we finally meet, we need to have a glass of champagne together!

DAD

Love that trunk! My parents have one that's very similar and they also use it as a coffee table.

Mary-Laure said...

DROLLGIRL - oh, we could have gone together... It's true that everything is so expensive at Bergamot, usually, that I too was stunned to find such great deals.

I love flea markets and garage sales, but we rarely have them over here. The majority of the people in this area don't like to buy used stuff, etc.

Thanks for visiting my site.

I haven't read Frame's books before, so I google searched it last night. Her life is like a book itself. I hope they will make a movie out of it.

I like that trunk, I have a story about trunks. The first trunk in my life was my dad's trunk that he brought home from his P & O ship from London to Singapore, and then to Borneo. There were subsequent trunks, and my friends used it for a coffee table.

Cheers,

Ann :)

ANN - actually, Janet Frame's autobiography WAS made into a movie by the great director Jane Campion. You can check it out, it's called "An angel at my table" and it's extraordinary.
