Sewing Machine

Old cars, typewriters, even household appliances... I love such treasures, their ingenious machinery and retro design, so I was thrilled to see this ancient sewing machine in a shop-window on London's Neal Street. Its case is also super cute.

I dream of Pininfarina automobiles and Olivetti typewriters...
And you?

Special offer: when shopping at Border's Bookstore in London, I was given a 20% off coupon for my next purchase. It's valid in the UK only, until May 31. As I won't be crossing the Channel in May, I'll mail this coupon to one of you, dear readers. Interested? Leave your name in the Comments section - do mention you'd like to enter the draw. Benjy's innocent little paw will pick one name.

FASHION IVY - I wish I could sew too; I'm hopeless with needles and thread.

MARIE - I have to look up Abici Italia bikes, as I have never heard of them. Your taste is so exquisite I am sure they are beautiful...
I am so eager to meet you here in Paris!

Joli modele a manivelle et sans moteur. Il me fait penser a ses vieilles cameras du début du cinema que les operateurs de prise de vue faisaient tourner en chantant "Sambre et Meuse".

my girlfriend is currently nervously awaiting delivery of a sewing machine, another (female) friend said that seeing another woman had a sewing machine was a sure sign of character and finally your picture brings to mind my gran, who had a sewing machine but also had a number of knitting machines which fascinated me endlessly...

and yes i'd find a home for a borders voucher if it's still going... i'm currently reading the 2nd book in the 6 book translation of "in search of lost time" but i may have lost it... in some cafe somewhere i guess... i'm keeping myself busy with trashy reading until it resurfaces x

name being "Robbie Knight" or "longcat" x thankyou for the offer x

KIRA - no I can't create anything. but I'd love to learn how to sew!

PIERRE - I hope you'll sing 'Sambre et Meuse' for me...

LONGCAT - I hope you'll share your girlfriend's creations on your blog!
I finished reading Proust's endless masterpiece last year; it's such an amazing read and experience!
What's your favorite volume?

i'll have to rustle up a picture of her (girlfriend) in that amazing dress she made for my brothers wedding...

as to proust it took me a little while to get used to losing combray and the beautiful evocation of childhood and vivid colourful memory... but now i'm enough into the second book i really appreciate his wit as an adult...

just before i lost it he had made it to the coast and was talking about the characters around him in the hotel... very funny and you can see why he used to be the toast of parties... before he became a recluse and shut himself away to write this book...

i only wish i knew where it was... i'm hungry for it x

Wonderful offer...but I way too far away. :( I have been partial to old trucks lately??? So weird, but love them so much. This sewing machine is lovely too.
