Literally across the street from the ocean, on Pacific Coast Highway, the Reel Inn is a relaxed fish taco joint that was warmly recommended to me by Heidi, who is a gourmet in addition to being a fab photographer. A few days ago, I had lunch there with my very dear friend Lucy, who flew in from Chicago to spend a couple of days in Los Angeles with me. We immediately took to this bright little place, with its oh so Californian surfboards hanging from the corrugated metal ceiling - as well as a cute bike. Not into tacos? You can order a slab of their super fresh fish, or other kinds of dishes listed on the blackboard.
Oh, and since we are on the topic of foodie LA, I need to mention Caffe Luxxe, on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, where I went with lovely Joanna, and froze with amazement and glee at the sight of what could only be alfajores - the typical dulce de leche filled baked treats that we have in my grandparents' Uruguay. They're home made and delicious.

NANCY - granted, alfajores are calorie-heavy but fish tacos are really not: they pile up plenty of salad and diced tomatoes onto the tortillas, as the fish is very simply cooked - now of course if you get a side order of fries that's another story...

Back away from the alfajores! I repeat, slowly put your hands in the air and BACK AWAY FROM THE ALFAJORES! You know you can't have just one (as demonstrated with the Amaretti), so all this is gonna end badly in the dentist's chair...

New favorite restaurant in Topanga Canyon is the Canyon Bistro. They opened a year ago.. Okay disclaimer: my friend is the owner.
Oh, and for the French in you, go to Café Mimosa in Topanga Canyon. I might be there. Also my best friend Claire is the owner.

ARTYCHO - my mum was in London last week and told me it was the coldest winter on record since 1976, brrrrr... Here in Los Angeles, the weather is typically beautifully, around 20 degrees Celsius, and sunny. Though today I hear it's going to rain - all those beautiful flowers around my place need it!!

SOLANGE - how do you know dulce de leche? It's so typically Argentine and Uruguayan, usually no one ever heard of it outside those countries...

A friend in our scuba diving club frequents Paradise Cove and often pays homage to Marilyn with fresh caught fish and lobster.
