Give Us Girls A Trim

Coincidentally, both my sister and I went for major haircuts this week; while she lives in Amsterdam, I am in Los Angeles - my hair was cut at the great, trendy but in no way snotty Trim salon, at 1424 Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice. I've always loved women with short hair, from the bold writer Colette who sheared her locks in the 1920's, to the flappers' cuts and actresses like the poignant Jean Seberg.

Love the hair, and Jean Seberg is one of my favorite actresses.

Great cuts! A short cut is so liberating, it seems. Though, I'm letting mine grow out some after a "Sebergian" cut.

LYNN - I'm glad you like Jean Seberg too, she's not that famous. I adored her in "Breathless".

ANNIE - yes, LIBERATING is the word.

KARINA - gracias, querida!

You are so brave. I've always loved women with short hair too, but I don't dare cut mine... I think it would look awful on me... And yes, I love that my granny has things I can still wear :)

Woooohooo! Look at my owner's hair! Her haircut was done at Headquarters Beauty in Amsterdam by the wonderful 6 feet tall Linda.
Auntie you look awesome with that little shag.

Looks great!

I have - only for you :) - added a gadget with translation.

I is so much fun (for me) because it doesn't really find the correct words. Mostly yes, but sometimes it looks really weird.

Have a great day!

me gustan mucho las mujeres de pelo corto y los hombres de pelo un poco largo... Sin embargo, yo no puedo llevarlo corto, estoy fatal. A tí te queda estupendamente!

I adore short hair. I once went to the Houston ballet and the ballerina had short, short hair. I was mesmerized. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, she was so beautiful.

You and your sister look lovely.

Taocito, I know you're half batty even for a bichon, so I won't hold it against you. But really, "a little shag"? SERIOUSLY???

Mary-Laure said...

AGNES - if you're afraid of cutting your hair, you may want to cut it incrementally, little by little, rather than go for a massive cut. Find a hairdresser you trust and ask for his/her advice.

TAOCITO - thanks for the address! Do YOU also get your long locks cut there?

NJUT - of thanks for adding the translation tool; I just love the pictures on your blog and always wonder what is it you're talking about!

ANONYMOUS - we have the same white skin and toothy smile.

ESTI - gracias, Esti!

CHRISTINA - YES, I too love ballerinas with very short hair, like Zizi Jeanmaire and, at one time, Marie-Claude Pietragalla. It's very striking.

BLONDIE - tu as vraiment l'esprit mal place.

I love your new haircut dear Mary-Laure, short hair is simply more stylish than long. I had it short for years but then had such a hard time growing it out that I've sort of grown afraid of cutting it again... but your and your sister are inspiring. Maybe by the summer if I get down to my ideal weight I'll reward myself :)

well i love short hair as well... i have sported a dutch bob since i was 14.. which means old ladies love me- because i remind them of when they were young. i am happy that you see the glamour in short hair because as of late i have felt outdated, and well, i like your blog, so obviously your opinion matters. moreover, both you and your sister look wonderful with your new cuts- you are both beautiful girls..

I desperately need a hair cut. Maybe I'll try your salon!

GABBI - I know how you feel. After I had very short hair in my late teens, I grew it out and once it was long, it took me for ever to cut it again because I remembered the time it took me to grow it out.

ASHERETTE - thanks for your sweet compliments. I think we shouldn't care about hair trends but rather look for something that works well for us and makes us feel good.
To me, short hair means personality, character and freedom.
And I absolutely LOVE your Dutch bob!

RACHEL - yes, give it a try; it's only $20 for your first cut at the salon, quite a bargain!

Lovely hair cut. Take a look at the photo I posted today, I also linked and tagged you. It's about ballet and ballerina.

It is absolutely you. I love it. Is the sun bleaching it?

Mary-Laure said...

MISS GLITZY - I'll check out the tag right away - I love tags!
You're a short hair gal too, aren't you?

SPANGLER - I think the sun has indeed lightened up my hair but on the picture the sun is striking the side of my head, making my hair look blonder than it actually is, I think.

Love your cut, and you and your sister have got such wonderful clear complexions, wow.
I also cut my hair once to below my chin, but I think i am more of a shoulder length haired girl, but sometimes I get the urge to do something completely different, on you it looks super :-)

hug,
Solange

i just had a trim this week too. It was badly needed! My ends were so frazzled and dry. I prefer my hair long because I have a sort of roundish face, and short hair will only make it look rounder.

Beautiful haircuts!
I also love women with short hair, it adds a little something to a style, some originality. But, even if I also have straight and short hair, I always wished to have big, long and curly haire, instead.... Contradiction...

great cuts!!

NANCY - I hope you'll send me pictures...

ALYA - I agree with you, the most important thing is to find something that works with your hair type, the shape of your face etc. I just occurred to me I never saw a picture of you!

MARIE-EVE - ha ha ha, exactly, I always find dark girls with black hair beautiful...
