What nice walks you both take! And we readers enjoy the bounty of your tasteful shots.
This time it is about a late afternoon coastal expedition - beautiful sea urchin shot! And also announcing spring is almost here.

I love sea urchins. Lucky you for finding one.

Hey Harriet has her shadow shot post up...you should include your shot.

you know i would love the shadow image; a kind of dancerly flight. Am wondering if that Urchin is so big and if Benji is hiding under it, making it move down the beach, inch by inch, while people wonder... :)

Thank you for your gorgeous postcard. I will email you soon! px

NANCY - I don't know what it is but some people who commented seem to think it's a sea urchin.

HIGH DESERT DIVA - I hadn't thought of that, what a good idea. Harriet is indeed the Queen of Shadows...

MANSUETUDE - he he he, that would be "very Benjy" indeed.

PIA - I'm happy you liked the card!

Lovely photos dear Mary-Laure, I especially love the one of the sea urchin also! Thank you for sharing. Though it's only about 40 minutes away I haven't been to the beach in years... :)

I do love your posts and photos, always inspiring, always fresh and new.
thank for sharing these pictures, they're lovely!
Do you feel all at home in your neighbourhood now? I always think that if you move, to a different continent, it takes some time getting used to the daily life things.
I am curious on how you experience that. ARe there things from Paris you miss? (hope you don't mind all my questions...!)

enjoy your weekend!!

what lovely contrasts!

GABBI - well then you MUST visit Benjy and me here in Malibu. The ocean is so beautiful...

SOLANGE - of course I don't mind your questions! It's very sweet of you to take an interest in me.
I do miss some things from Paris apart from my friends and my mum: I miss the fresh bread! It's very difficult here to find some good bread that's not packed with all kinds of additives and sugar.
I do feel at home here. I had been longing to move to the Los Angeles area for years, and the proximity of the ocean has a very soothing effect on me.
I was already familiar with the area, so it made things easier, too.

RAINING SHEEP - yes that's one of the things I love about Southern California, the constant blooms.

The top two...wow. Love them. And they look so cool, too. I'm dying of heat here! :p

The top picture is indeed a sea urchin shell.

This is what one looks like before it loses all of its spines.

You'll find more information about them here.

(What's important to know, in terms of California ecology, is that too many sea urchins can cause extensive damage to our local kelp forests.)

Excerpt: Left unchecked, urchins will devastate their environment, creating what biologists call an urchin barren, devoid of macroalgae and associated fauna.

CANDACE - thanks for the info, you're so wonderfully knowledgeable about nature...
