AF0065 - LAX to CDG

Benjy and I headed for Paris a few days ago. My travel essentials: Teen Vogue, my iPod with plenty of NPR podcasts, short stories by the Israeli writer Etgar Keret, an all-natural almond-scented moisturizer from Weleda, my Lucien Pellat-Finet cashmere shawl to use as a blanket and a pair of lovely slippers by Etsy's wonderful and talented Infusion.

The essentials! I did not think my slippers would be so great for travel. I'm so happy you are enjoying them.

Bon Voyage.
Have a fantastic time in Paris!

Looking forward to the photos! Slippers are essential, for sure. We do share the same taste in authors, I must say.

(I sent you a tweet, BTW...that was moi)

xoxo

PS: Bonjour Benjy!

Ohhh- a holiday wedding-I can't wait to see the pictures. The Amande moisture creme- did you find that in the US? I have been looking since you posted about that a while ago. Love those slippers. Hope you and Benjy had a good flight. Have fun and Merry Christmas.

I've never travelled with slippers but I do take a nice comfy and oversize pair of socks so I don't get my feet all yucky without my shoes on and I take a shawl. I'm curious as to how you travel with Benjy since I've never travelled with a pet and he doesn't seem to be in a crate...or did that come later? I look forward to the wedding photos. Have a wonderful stay with your family and a safe journey to and fro.

INFUSION - I'm always cold on airplaines and your slippers are just SO WARM!
I adore them, really!

GIULIA - Have you read books by Etgar Keret? I find that his other collections are much better, but still, he's quite talented.
I heard him on NPR once and I was just fascinated.

DEBRA - Weleda is an excellent organic German brand. I got this specific moisturizer in Paris, but you can also find it in the US, at Whole Foods and at many organic-oriented pharmacies.

JOYFUL - because Benjy is under 10 pounds, on some airlines he can travel with me. He must be in a pet carrier - I took the pic at the airport while we were waiting to board.
He is VERY good on airplanes, and just stays put quietly until we reach our destination.

Yes, absolutely. I keep current with Israeli authors. I lived in Jerusalem though my Hebrew is not good enough to read anymore. So I read in English. Haven't read that collection. A friend (from Israel) told me that Ira Glass interviewed him for NPR...didn't hear that interview. Glad you're reading him. My major heroes among the older writers are Yehuda Amichai & Amos Oz. (Was lucky enough to meet YA before he passed away.)

Benjy is so so so so cute. I just never think of him as under 10 pounds. Giulia-Julie Cat is 10.8 lbs! She's bigger than Benjy? This cracks me up for some reason. I used to take my cat Teddy all over the world. He particularly liked Italy & was so spoiled by flight attendants. AFrance is really good about animals on board (or so I've heard...I've flown them but not with animals). It's started to snow here (big big storm on the way). She'd love to go out in it but I worry about her getting too cold.

ciao!

Susan

ANNIE - Because Benjy is under 10 pounds, on some airlines he can travel with me. He must be in a pet carrier under the seat in front of me, but I often sneak him out to have him on my lap and he stays very VERY still.
Bigger pets typically travel in kennels, with the luggage.
To travel to most countries you need a health certificate from the vet as well as a proof of recent rabies vaccination. Some countries (Japan, Australia, the UK, Singapore and others) require pets be quarantined, but fortunately it's not to case between France and the USA.

GIULIA - I've read some Amos Oz but would like to read more...
I also love Isaac Bashevi Singer though I think that technically, he was not Israeli.
What would you recommend by Amichai?
The Keret interview I heard was on Open Source on NPR, and it was really fascinating.
It's been snowing here in Paris and Benjy is not too happy about that!
And yes, he is a little under 10 pounds!

Your sister's what????? what did my owner do? Wait a second, I go on vacation for a few days and then stuff happens????

Anyhoo, nice essentials. I usually just bring a few toys in my kennel. My owner always brings a pashmina, some moisturizer, a charged Ipod and crosswords puzzles.

TAOCITO - I'm sorry I'm the one who broke the news to you... I think you're in good hands with your new co-owner.
I know your dear owner loves crossword puzzles - we're both fans of the NYTimes's Will Shortz.

Have the same moisturizer (use it as a night cream though as it's so thick)
I love the Weleda products, great quality, organic products, cheap and, last but not least: non-animal testing;-)

JO - it's SO GREAT to hear from you again!!! I'm thrilled you're back!

BILLIE - I agree, the almond cream is very thick - I only use it in the winter, actually.
It smells so good...
