In My Room

Books have been piling up on my desk since I moved to Malibu... Now I finally have a little bookshelf. It's a beautiful wood thing, but a bit small for my sprawling collection, so I may need more book cases soon. With a bouquet of white snapdragons and a comfy chair, it's my little reading corner. As for my ever-towering to-read pile, it's still on my desk.

In the meantime, Benjy is trying to crawl under the closet where his favorite soccer ball got lost.
Maybe he's training for a dog yoga class, like other four-paws?
And... will he be blessed on Saturday?

If I had that cozy corner in which to read and look at fresh flowers, I might forget to go for other food.

Dogs doing yoga?! Ye gods. Mother of pearl. My life is so unglamorous. Even for a dog. wink. wink.

APRILINIOWA - Benjy is really more of a soccer fan, and doesn't do yoga, but as the New York Times article I linked to shows, some dogs do...

I can imagine Benjy pushing with his back legs and twisting his way to the ball under the cabinet! He's so so active!

A lovely little reading corner!

Dogs doing yoga? Ha! The thought of my tubby and clutzy dog doing yoga is hilarious. I'd love to see her try. I really really would! :)

Such a sweet book shelf. When I was a newlywed-we made many, many bookcases out of beautiful old boards and bricks. I hadn't thought about those in a long time. Love your reading corner.

A Bookcase? Methinks this is "The thin end of the wedge"...

I love b & w photos. One can never have enough books.

That's a cute shelf! On the wall, out of the way. It's hard to find a place to put books (if you have a lot).

so impressed on how you are able to capture such great shots of Benjy. Your are an inspiration. Norm has not tried soccer but he does begin his days with downward facing dog. Believe it or not he went to a meditation class at school this week (only in cali, right?) and got spooked at the soft spoken woman's voice and started having a melt down. I guess he is just as crazy as his mother and is not big on meditation. hope you have a fabulous weekend. I hope you get to go to the blessing. I wish I could but those pesky essays are still stalking me. xoxo

Lovely, lovely reading corner.

And what a multi-talented dog that Benjy is! Not to mention that he is the sweetest subject for photographs. Even his hind legs are photogenic!

What a fabulous reading corner - I could curl right up and get lost in a book. From one book lover to another, it's perfect.
I cracked up over the photo of yoga master, Benjy - I hope he got to his ball after all that contorting!
Have a wonderful weekend and Easter.

WORLD IN A PAN - hyper active.

DEBRA - it's so great to make your own things for your hope. I hope you saved them.

GEYSER - thin end of the wedge: as Nancy would say.

SEALAURA - a meditation class? Yes, only in California!!!! That's just crazy!!!

BLUE MUSE - he always gets his ball in the end, as it's his fave thing in the world.

You had me at the adorable bookshelf, but you really made me giggle with Benjy's sweet little legs. Dogs are so crazy!

Happy weekend. xo

oh love the bookshelf...but i rather like books piling up on desks. i actually keep all my poetry books in the bedroom (an idea i stole from some friends ;).

oh and steevy like benjy is a soccer fan...steevy could be goalie, he has really long legs, even for a cat!

and i do hope benjy gets blessed!

and now i shall be a bit silly...i never thought what religion steevy was if any??...we haven't discussed it...but i think he might just be a pagan...;))

SARA CHRISTINE - and Benjy is especially crazy about his ball, playful as he is...

NANCY - actually, when I was living in Paris, I always had a few poetry books by my bed (Shakespeare's sonnets of course, and Sappho).
HA! I'd love to see Steevie and Benj play soccer. Benjy plays with his legs rather than his nose, which is unusual for a dog.
And like Steevie, Benjy is a pagan for sure, a little heathen who worships at the altar of chicken skin, steak and cheese... Or at the altar of great soccer player Zinedine Zidane?

Too many books, my friend, or too small bookshelf!!!!

KARINA - never too many books!

ANNIE - oh don't worry, he ALWAYS reaches his ball in the end: he's too eager to play!

Benji cracks me up! Have a great Easter!

JANE - maybe he'll find an Easter egg under that closet?

Me encanta esa última foto de benji! Es muy gracioso :)

Oh, dear...

Mary-Laure, you need a book WALL not a book CASE.

I wonder if there is a bookcase in all of Los Angeles that can keep up with the pace at which you devour literature and provide you with the book capacity that you need.

What you require is your own personal library!

Listening to PRI: To the Best of Our Knowledge discussion titled 'Good Dog'. It was mentioned that the tail of a dachshund is extremely strong and stories go that it is so to PULL them out from fox holes during hunts! This could be a wise tail - no pun intended - but there is really only one way to know ...

Mary-Laure said...

J ELAINE - REALLY???? That's excellent, so funny. Viva NPR/PRI!

J Elaine said...

Yes, really!! The show is dated April 11. On the same program is a discussion about the dogs who were the companions and inspiration of some of our greatest women writers! NPR/PRI rules!

PS Eating hot cross buns and listening to NPR wait wait don't tell me! They REALLY crack me up!

I love that photo... Two little legs sticking out... Very cute!
I wish I had more time to read...sigh!

I love your bookshelf and Benji looks ridiculously cute sticking out like that!

Did he get blessed? :)

Did you go see Laura Gibson?

Do you have the new album?

Mary-Laure said...

J ELAINE - I listen to Wait Wait every week and it's always soooooo funny. Benjy prefers Freshhhhhhhh Air though.

GABBI - Benjy, I realized, is a genuine pagan so he did not get blessed. As for Laura Gibson, I didn't go to the concert - did you?

Tulip Press said...

Sooo Cute!

I recently bought a monster of a book shelf as it has recently been pointed out to me that I can't just keep books...well everywhere.
