Weekend Yard Sales

On Saturday I went to a few yard sales around Venice and Santa Monica. My loot includes a set of 3 red dessert/salad plates, a blue ceramic pitcher (perfect for when I make lemonade), and a huge wood salad bowl with its three matching individual bowls - all that for a grand total of $15.
Finally, I bought this ancient egg beater... I know I'll never use it but I just couldn't resist its retro look - also, it only cost $1.

Great finds! I love retro egg beaters... you can use it to make whipped cream in the summer for peaches and strawberries! Or, chocolate mousse!

Mother had the same whites beater! Oh, that goes back to 1950 something ... she had bought it in the States when she lived there. I remember using it when I was little, it was fun. Then in the late fifties, she bought a Kenwood electric beater.

I wish the yard sales around my place had such pretty things.

You may be surprised how handy that little beater can be-for quick jobs. I have one and use it when the job is too small for the Kitchenaid. It is fun to bring home these treasures isn't it. Great wooden bowls. Sounds like you had a nice weekend.

What do you mean you'll never use the egg beater? Of course you will - I love those. And they're oh-so-quiet.

I love yard sale finds...the blue pitcher would also make a great vase!

The artist-made pitcher is so dear...good enough to hold utensils (like a retro egg beater) on your sinktop.

J ELAINE - Yes, I know, but I'm really very bad at beating egg whites manually. I never managed to, silly me.

LAURA - You know, I did think of her when I bought them. I thought it would be the kind of thing she had probably owned at some point.

HILA - a lot of the stuff I saw was just super ugly. It took some digging to find those pretty items.

SAM - it's my favorite, too.

VINTAGE - ah no, give me an electric beater any time... I'm just so clumsy, I could never been egg whites stiff manually.

SPANGLER - oh what a GREAT idea! I might use it to hold utensils indeed.

Great finds!! I remember this type of whisk. I'm sure my Gran would have one stashed somewhere still. Haha.

ANNIE - I'm glad you like it too!

REBECCA - if you buy any goodies at yard sales, I hope you'll share them on your blog.

PENNYCONES - my mum says my grandma used to have one too. She probably still has it, too.

I have one of those egg beaters and I love it. Sadly, I rarely use it because I'm afraid of it breaking down.
