Happy Childhood Summers
I'm having problems with my camera's SD card (don't ask...), so I thought that instead of posts from this Sunday's flea+farmers' market in NYC, I'd regale you with some pics from my childhood. How I loved those summers, in Cape Cod/Maine with my god father's family or in the Alps with my 3 cousins! It was all about picnics at the beach in Cape Cod, riding our red little wagon around the house in Woodshole, going for ice cream after dinner and singing songs. In the Alps (4th picture) we'd go berry picking in the garden; the oldest of the children, I was allowed to watch TV later and would also read in the alpine chalet while my mum's sister, Martha, brewed her innumerable daily cups of coffee - oh, that rich Brazilian fragrance. Those were active, blissful days and sometimes we'd fall asleep even before we'd get home (below, my sister Céline in my dad's arms in Bar Harbor).

You were all tres mignon. I wonder where my accents went? (I mean typographically speaking:) Very sweet & charming.
xo
PS: Which Alps & nearby town? I separate them completely in my mind. Maybe that's weird. It would not be the first time (even today) that I was weird.
Oh, the perks of being the oldest of the children. I know them well. Beautiful photographs, especially Céline in your father's arms.
HI Mary-Laure
Love your childhood photos.. the joys of being a child and a never ending summer... or so we thought... Love the cart... I have a photo somewhere of my siblings using a washing basket for same purpose..
Hope you had a fab weekend.. xxx Julie
GIULIA - if you don't know how to make the accents on your keyboard, shoot me an email and I'll explain. I don't bother with them when I'm online though........
In the Alps, my mum's sister and her family live in a small village near Chamonix/Megeve. A few miles away from the Mont Blanc tunnel that leads to Italy.
Are your familiar with the area?
JULIET - HA! I love the idea of the laundry basket/cart. Hope you share that pic on your blog.
What a joyful ride to the past!
Forever a fan of your childhood shares... I love the photograph of your dad carrying your sis especially. A good dad is important. :)
GABBI - actually, I thought of posting these pics when I saw the childhood pics YOU posted last week - you know, your sister and her little friend running, etc.
I thought, that is SO adorable!
Your mom shared you blog with us about a year ago, so I have been following it and so has Emily. It was funny to open it and see pictures of us with you as little kids in Cape Cod and the photo from Bar Harbor. Those summers were great and we have some wonderful memories as well.
Heather (Wynes) Heavlin
These are absolutely, ADORABLE.
Ah, yes, I know exactly where that is...I don't know why it was important to know.
The accents usually show up when I type...maybe I hit something & defaulted. I know it oughtn't bother me, but I'm compulsive about some things. I wish I could be as compulsive about washing the kitchen floor, for example:)
ciao
HEATHER - you have NO IDEA how much these words mean to me. I had the best time ever with your family as a kid, and I do consider you my family. I hope we can get together again some day.
And I look forward to seeing your parents t Celine's wedding.
I send you and your own little family all my LOVE...........
lovely photos!!!!! and souvenirs
I like the sound of reading in a place infused with the smell of Brazilian coffee. Charming photos too. Thanks for sharing them.
GRACIA - yes, my mum and aunt both love Brazilian coffee. Such a rich, sweet fragrance!
Oh, these are all so wonderful..! And Maine... I've been having serious fantasies about Maine.
Your memories were filled with beautiful scents for me - pine needles and sand, salt water and strong coffee... It was a treat to travel back in time with you. Thank you.
xoox,
-maria
what bliss filled memories and gorgeous photographs!
My favorite childhood summers were spent with my dad, fishing on a very small lake, on a naval base. We caught catfish and laughed all the time! I loved your photos and memories.
