A Week End In Connecticut

Summer in New England always reminds me of happy childhood vacation, as my family would spend a few weeks every August in Cape Cod. Sometimes on our way we would stop to visit my mum's best friend from high school, Mary Alice, for more magical and sunny moments. This weekend, I fled New York City's stifling weather and joined Mary Alice in her dreamy Connecticut home. What lushness! From my bedroom window, among the trees, I could glimpse at a stunning red house - a remodeled barn.
In the evening, we attended a production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night on the green in Guilford. For our picnic, I had made asparagus lasagna, and the Good Humor truck was there to provide treats.

At the yacht club, while we had lobster rolls, a seagull too was having lunch... One of the things I enjoyed was checking out the names of the boats - a sailboat owned by some physicians is called Ouch!, which I thought was very funny, but my favorite was the typographically witty one above...

Oh it sounds heavenly. I love the photos, the one of the Good Humor truck certainly brings back good memories. Twelfth Night - yay, esp. outside. And I do love typos (when I'm not making/fixing them)...esp. this kind. Very funny.

So glad you escaped. Have a good week, M-L. GG waves a paw-pad.

GIULIA - me, typos kill me, but this one is intentional, and so witty, I just loved it!

DENISE - childhood summer memories are the best.

Sounds like an amazing weekend Mary-Laure... I love the 'Good Humor' truck and the names on the boats. Wonder what the profession of Misprint might've been? Something to do with journalism maybe?... :)

GABBI - that sounds likely. I will investigate!

It sounds like perfect: lush green coolness, Shakepeare, childhood memories *sigh*! Cape Cod is a pretty iconic part of the States - I'd love to visit some day. Lovely photos!

One of these days I'd like to make a trip to the lovely Cape Cod, Mary!

DROLLGIRL - I did also spend some summers in Maine (Bar Harbor) and it was just as beautiful. As for Vermont, I spent 2 summers at Middlebury College in 98 and 2002, and found it magical: the lakes, the mountains, the hiking, the ice cream!

What LOVELY impressions!!! I am addicted to 'The Barefoot Contessa' - partly because it is all filmed up there..... Sounds like a magical memories!!!!

Just a quick response to your last comment on my blog....yes, they are dog biscuits, I make them a lot (makes a great present, I find!) - do you ever bake for Benjy? If you are interested, I have put the recipe on my other blog (which is in English): http://akitcheninsuffolk.blogspot.com/

Have a lovely day! Nicola

I've been craving a trip to New England like nobody's business. Bill would like to take me for there for Valentine's Day (I think because he is afraid that unless we go in the dead of winter, I will not want to come back. Meanwhile I say, winter? Bring it on, baby!

xoox,
-maria

ps: love the witty boat name. As far as that seagull, I tell you - wicked accent in my head.

SEPTEMBER COTTAGE - thanks for the recipe, I'm sure Benjy will love it!

VINTAGE SIMPLE - what is it about New England that's so magical? I too always want to stay there.
As for the seagull... you just prompted me to imagine some very funny things!
