Smells Like Soap

On Venice boulevard in Mar Vista, there is a place called Soaptopia where they handmake soap right in front of you, with all -natural ingredients, before giving their products quirky names such as Staying A'Lime, Sage Against The Machine, Walt Mintman and LA Squeeze...
I find that the heavy duty detergents in regular soap really makes my skin dry and itchy, so I have become very partial to detergent-free cleansers - Neutrogena's classic Cleansing Bar is also a good choice; if you want to avoid aggressive agents, make sure you use something that is free of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or its close relative Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).
No such ingredients at Soaptopia. I visited them today and bought a rosewood soap as well as some Lavender moisturizing oil - regulars on AUREA know about my everlasting quest for the perfect moisturizer... I bravely stayed away from other goodies, such as their natural sponges, lip balms, and shea massage candles.

'stayin a lime' that name cracks me up. I am sat here trying to think of my own witty names. Only coming up with dumb ones like Jack Lemmon and Choc-a-block. On your quest for the perfect mosturiser, what one(s are your favorites so far? I like Clinique Dramatically Different and St Ives.

hola! I would love a recap as to your fave moisturizers. I have been with Aveeno for a while and wonder if I should switch to a more heavenly product. I miss being close to venice, such a fun place. I loved going there as a teen, good times.

JAIMEE - you can always visit their website and dream...

CLARE - ha, I love those names, especially Jack Lemmon, maybe a peppery masculine lime scent?
Clinique does some GREAT stuff indeed, I used to be hooked on their City Block.

SEALAURA - are there any places around Venice you liked and would recommend I check out?
I hope Norman is in great shape these days.

This post reminded me of my favourite lip balm - Bourjois's Night Lip Balm, the best ever! I take it on planes with me. Also, I love the name "Soaptopia" :)

What a great post. I feel like I have discovered the store with you. Your choice of rosewood sounds nice. My recent skin soothing addiction is Kiehl's 'Superbly Restorative Argan Skin Salve' made with fairly traded argan oil.

I love browsing through soap shops. Like LUSH for example. But I dont know why I feel like their products are not as effective as the more commercial ones.

Yummy shop! Have you tried coconut oil as a moisturizer? That's what I use, it's doesn't stay greasy on top and is super good for the skin.

Love the names. Walt Mintman - that's hilarious.

BTW-my skin is sensitive too.
I'm a huge fan of Clearly Natural Vitamin E Glycerin soap.

what a great shop! I love soaps and fragrances, but like you, find that some are too strong or drying for my skin.
your post gives me a good reason to go and buy a new soap again,

have a great day Mary-Laure!

It is ok if you don't live too close -- they do have an amazing shop online. Can't smell the soap (until it arrives) but you can see all the groovy ingredients and fab beauty shots of the soap.

(but, yea, going in is a treat).
