Shops of Paris

The shop window at Guerlain on the rue de Passy...

An ancient shoe at a traditional cobbler's on the rue de Biot... A chocolate shoe in the window of a hip confectioner's on the rue de Seine.

The top floor of the Bon Marché - designer lamps under the old department store's splendid metal structure.

One of Paris's most famous department stores, Le Printemps is decorated with spectacular holiday lights.

Trying on some hats.

The hats look great. I see you are snapping photos with a Lumix. Can you tell me more? I recently bought a Canon SD780 but was considering a Lumix. I just didn't know which one to get.

Ha! I was scrolling down a bit too quickly and instantly fell in love with that shoe...I only realized later that I could never wear it as it was made of chocolate! Depressing and enchanting all the same...

JOYFUL - I don't know about the Canon, it may be very good.
This is the 2nd Lumix I have and I am very happy with it, as I was with the one before. I like the way it looks, it's very compact (fits in a pocket), and most importantly it takes good pics. Indoors the hues tend to be a bit yellowish but I may not be using it properly. Haven't read the users' manual.

LAURA - the same thing happened to me as I was walking past the store. I thought, mmmm, nice shoe, and then realized that, like everything around it, it was made of chocolate.

How lovely to be along with you on this jaunt!

What clodhoppers they used to wear. I went into the stores in La Printemps, but I think they were even more expensive than in the States.

You look so chic on that hat! I also love the gloves and shawl, perfect complements to your outfit!

Lovely glimpses of Paris! You're such a gorgeous girl Mary-Laure... sincerely, no one wears hats quite as elegantly as you.

Mary-Laure said...

DONNA - LOL, it's so true about the clodhoppers.
I didn't buy any of the hats, they were just SO expensive. You're right, these stores, like Le Printemps, are outrageously expensive.

GABBI - you're making me blush! You're SO stylish.

SAM - I have to admit that, come the holiday season, the French do wonders with the lights and the Xmas windows - the decors are never too literal, always fresh, modern yet elegant.
I wish I had posted more pics - and taken more, too.

I was there this time of year for our honeymoon. Sigh. That was ten years ago..! We'll have to go back - it's time. Lovely to come along with you for a little while, though. And may I say hats suit you indeed.
